October Highlights and Happenings

Dear Reader,

We hope this message finds you well and savoring the joys of the fall season! This time of year is truly special, with the leaves changing colors and the weather inviting us to embrace outdoor activities and adventures.

We’re off to a fantastic start this school year and thrilled to be on our new campus. It has been a joy to see our students engaging with one another and building new friendships. These meaningful connections are a heartwarming reminder of the sense of community we strive to foster at Diener. It’s moments like these that highlight our commitment to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every student can thrive.

We’re excited to share some of our recent activities and celebrations that capture the spirit of our school this October. Please take a look below!

Grammy's Garden

We are thrilled to share the exciting development of Grammy's Garden, made possible by the generosity of our founder's mother, Arlie Friedlander. Her heartfelt contribution has allowed us to create this beautiful space nestled by the side of our student entrance, and it’s a wonderful addition to our school campus.

Arlie wanted to involve our students in this special project, and she, along with a dear friend, Betty, came prepared with all the necessary supplies to plant the garden. With the enthusiastic help of Ms. Kendra and Ms. Becky's class, everyone rolled up their sleeves, got their hands dirty, and participated in planting bulbs that will blossom into stunning flowers come spring.

We are incredibly grateful for Arlie's support and her commitment to engaging our students in this meaningful experience. Grammy's Garden not only beautifies our school but also fosters a sense of teamwork and responsibility among our students. We can’t wait to see the garden flourish and to witness the joy it will bring to our community in the months ahead!

Field Trip Fun

The Middle School had its first field trip of the year to the Trolley Museum. They learned about how the implementation of the streetcar system impacted the landscape of Chevy Chase, and to top it off, they got to ride on the streetcar. There were lots of smiling faces as they returned to the halls of Diener.

In celebration of World Animal Day in October, our Elementary School had the exciting opportunity to host an in-house field trip with Eco Adventure! The students had an unforgettable experience learning about a variety of fascinating animals. Our students got up close and personal with various creatures, including a baby turtle, a python, a hedgehog, a bearded dragon, and an owl. The day's highlight was certainly when the students had the chance to hold a baby alligator!

Fall Bash!

We had an incredible time at our Fall Bash at Butlers Orchard! Students, staff, and their families gathered to celebrate the beauty of the fall season, and what a fantastic day it was! Guests enjoyed a variety of fabulous activities on the farm, including the petting zoo, the corn pool, and the corn maze. The hay maze was a hit, and who could resist the thrill of jumping on the giant trampoline and sliding down the massive slides? There was truly something for everyone!

As the sun began to set, we capped off the evening by roasting marshmallows around the cozy bonfire. It was a perfect way to reflect on the day’s fun while enjoying the warmth and camaraderie of our community.

Events like the Fall Bash remind us of the importance of coming together as a community. It’s a wonderful opportunity to build connections, create lasting memories, and foster a sense of belonging among our families. We are grateful for everyone who participated and contributed to the joyful spirit of the day. Thank you for making our Fall Bash such a memorable celebration!

Halloween Highlights

We had an absolute blast celebrating Halloween together! Our Elementary School Costume Parade was a highlight, with parents joining us to enjoy the creativity and fun of each costume. The excitement was contagious as our Middle School students cheered on their younger peers during the parade.

Following the parade, our Middle School classrooms came together for a fun cohort party, while our Elementary School classrooms celebrated with their own special gatherings. Students participated in exciting activities and indulged in delicious treats, making for a memorable day filled with laughter and community spirit. It was a wonderful way to embrace the season and come together as a school!
